Cearie Balkcom entered nursing in 2006 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, FL after graduating from Gateway College with her Associates degree in nursing. In 2008 she started her wound care journey and a wound care nurse at NFRMC under the mentorship of a talented team consisting of a CWOCN and the Rehab department. Cearie continued her education and earned her Bachelors degree for University of South Florida in 2010. She then relocated to South Florida and worked in the Trauma Unit at Delray Medical Center until 2012. Shortly after obtaining her BSN, she went on to pursue her Wound, Ostomy, Continence education at Emory University and achieved her CWOCN in 2013. She became the Wound and Ostomy Nurse at Wuestoff Medical Center in Rockledge, Florida. In 2014 she returned to Gainesville, FL and accepted the position as Coordinator for the Wound and Ostomy program at Shands at the University of Florida. In 2018, she completed her Master’s degree in Nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing and became a certified Family Nurse Practitioner. After graduating with her MSN, she accepted a position with The Cardiac and Vascular Institute specializing in peripheral vascular disease. After gaining 3 years of valuable experience with TCAVI, she joined the Integumetrix in order to combine her passion and experience in wound care with her knowledge of vascular disease in order to provide advance wound care for patient as well as support and education for the collaborative patient care team. Her other experience includes critical care, home health care, and education for RN students.
